There are a lot of gamers in the world right now, Millions of which are making a lot of money from the play-to-earn system.
Many estimates put the exact number at over three billion, and the number continues to grow when the rise of mobile gamers is considered, which is growing in comparison to the stagnation of PC and console gamers.
Many articles have been written about how some gamers are now earning more than the national minimum wage simply by playing these games, and much has been said about whether “play to earn” even counts as gaming; it doesn’t; staking cryptocurrencies has simply been gamified.
Instead, in this article, we’ll discuss how player-owned economies, when properly created, maintained, and utilized, can demonstrate the use case of web3 technology for everyone who enjoys gaming, whether they’re developers, publishers, players, or other fans.
NFT USE CASES IN GAMING
STAKING AND RENTING are two examples of NFT use cases in gaming. Aside from the obvious financial benefit, these web3 features empower the “holders.” Staking is a process that allows these holders to lock up their assets in exchange for rewards.
OWNERSHIP: The major selling point here, is that developers cannot simply delete the in-game asset from the player’s inventory because they still own it. Players are spending millions each year on assets they don’t own and web3 changes this in a big way. Digital Collectibles represents the true ownership of an item that the player can choose what to do with.
GOVERNANCE: Owners of items frequently become eligible to vote on business decisions made by the business, foundation, or “Decentralised Autonomous Organization” (DAO) that represents project leadership. Many web3 projects aspire to this decentralized player-owned economy, with voting rights and governance built into the development plan.
SKIN: Consider the possibility of owning an in-game skin for a character or weapon that you earned for free, has a high real-world value and can be used in a variety of games. This is made possible by NFTs.
In the second part of this article, I will cite more benefits of owning in-game tokens, especially in the WARRIORGAME.
WarriorGame is one of the play-to-earn games that aims at using the open world’s abundant resources to give people a diverse range of services and provide creative ways to obtain revenue.
